In 1991 Kenny was a Unanimous
All-American first team selection in only his second
year at Georgia Tech. He left school after his
sophomore year via the number two pick in the draft
by New Jersey, but didn't do well under Bill Fitch
during his rookie season. He was flagrantly fouled
by John Starks of the Knicks in February of the 1993
season which caused him to take a step back in his
development into a star, losing the rest of his
second season to injury. In 1993-94 he played all 82
games for the Nets in a break-out season. He was the
highest scoring PG in the league that year. Kenny
was named an all-star in 1994, starting for the
eastern squad, in his only appearance. In 1994-95
Kenny finished the season second in the league in
assists with 9.4 per game. He did alright in NJ, but
began to develop a reputation as a difficult player
so everyone thought it best to try some new scenery
in Charlotte, coming to the Hornets with Gerald
Glass for Kendall Gill and Khalid Reeves in a trade
on February 19, 1996. He played out the season as a
Hornet, then became a free agent, looking for the
big contract as one of the top PGs available and
finally signed with Portland for 50 million over 7
years.
On February
13, 1998, Kenny was sent to Toronto along with Gary
Trent, rookie Alvin Williams and 2 draft picks for
Damon Stoudamire, Walt Williams and Carlos Rogers.
It is rumored that Portland will continue to pay
Kenny's salary. Kenny said he wouldn't play north of
the border, and sure enough, he never showed up in
Toronto, so on February 18th he was sent to Boston
along with Zan Tabak and Popeye Jones for rookie
standout Chauncey Billups, John Thomas, Dee Brown
and Roy Rogers. He can both shoot the jumper and
find the open man. He is a dangerous penetrator that
can work the open court, but has not settled into
being a consistent dangerous threat from deep. His
passing skills made him one of the east's best point
guards. On July 20, 2002 Boston traded Kenny
Anderson, Vitaly Potapenko, and Joseph Forte to
Seattle for Vin Baker and Shammond Williams. On
February 20, 2002 Seattle traded Kenny Anderson to
New Orleans for Elden Campbell. Indiana signed Kenny
to a free agent contract prior to the 2003-2004
season. |
